Thai Art Represented

The basis for Thai Art is Buddhism which has been the primary religion for over 2000 years. Magnificent sculptures and golden statues adorn many centers for religion and public areas as well.

The time factor is what creates different scenes for daily living, heavens and hells in the life of Buddha, Ganesh, Kwan Yin and many gods and goddesses.

The insatiable desire for the Thai's nationalism and historical significance remains today even though the westernization of Thai art students have tried to expand their interests in nature and still life.

There still remains a deep consciousness of religion as shown through such artists as Somyos Trisenee, Jumnan Sasaruk and Teerawat Kamana.

Thai Masks And Puppets

Symbolic mainly to Hindu beliefs, many masks portrayed a type of demon or god. Paper mache is the medium used to make these delightful and fearful face coverings.

Thai Art - Thai Puppets

Thai puppets were used to enact dramas during this same period. Puppets would portray many types of characters.

Performances were used to entertain as well as tell stories teaching people lessons about life. They were commonly used in religious celebrations and funerals.

Thai Crafts And Traditional Paintings

New works can be seen when visiting Thailand but the principals of religion and their land is still in command.
