Thailand tourism - Maya Bay, Koh Phi Phi Ley

In Thailand tourism is very well developed. If you want to make your trip to Thailand even more fun then in addition to knowing what to do you should also know what NOT to do.

Instead of a traditional handshake most Thai people will greet you with a wai, which involves folding both hands together at the palms and bringing your head down slightly towards your hands. If you have a problem doing it then you can simply smile and say hello to the other person since this wai is also based on hierarchy.

It's a good idea to learn a few Thai words and expressions. It will make your visit much more fun. Thais love it when you make an attempt to speak their language.

Thai people, in general, are very clean and expect the other person to be clean and tidy too. You should also wear the correct type of clothes when you are out in public. Wearing very tight shorts, hot pants, mini skirts or exposing too many parts of your body will not be appreciated by the locals, except on beaches frequented by foreigners.

You should also treat Thai currency including coins with respect since they carry the king's image on them. You might also notice many Buddhist monks roaming around Thailand, especially in and around temples.

If you do wish to make a donation then you can do so, although if you are a woman then you will have to keep the donation on a cloth at the monk's feet without touching him while also ensuring that you do not make any physical contact with any monk and that includes not even accidental brushing.

You should also make sure that you remove your footwear when you enter in any temple or mosque or in someone's home and also make sure that your feet face away from the other person when you are seated, as this is considered discourteous.

You should also make sure that you do not shower physical affection on another person by holding hands or kissing in public since it is frowned upon in Thai society.

Here's an interesting selection of Thailand vacation packages for you to enjoy.

In Thailand tourism is well-developed but where there are tourists, thieves are bound to follow. Thus, make sure that all your valuables including documents are safely locked. Remain safe from pickpockets by keeping your bag or purse in front of you or keeping them in the front pocket of your jeans.

You should also shop at reputed shops only. Stay away from people that try to help you aggressively and lead you to shops that they claim are good since this will only fetch them a fat discount/commission paid to them with your money.
